Welcome to WCCE

"Building tomorrow's world together"

Civil engineers perform and provide unique services for the community involving personal decisions and use of creative skills that carry and demand substantial responsibility. These services are more than often an essential requirement for everyday life and should be  of high quality, reliable and ensure absolute safety.  If the services are deficient,  grave consequences may occur  that could result in injury, loss of life to many people and disruption to the community.

The challenge of sustainable development requires ethical and technical commitment from the civil engineering society across the entire world.  Civil engineers, because of their established presence worldwide, have the ability and capacity to build vital cross-links which contribute to sustainable development.

Solidarity with developing countries requires the attention and involvement of the  civil engineering profession. In order to achieve economic self sufficiency and  help raise and equalize living standards in the less developed countries, the free movement of the profession is essential for the transfer of knowledge and technology coupled with the education that results in high skills in technological areas.

The global family of civil engineers involved in the broad spectrum of civil engineering can contribute to the improvement of peoples lives and living conditions world wide. This can be done through teamwork, cooperation and a common problem solving approach.

We believe that WCCE, The World Council of Civil Engineers, can contribute and serve universally to achieve these goals.

"Let me challenge all of you to help mobilize global science and technology to tackle the interlocking crises of hunger, disease, environmental degradation and conflict that are holding back the developing world."
Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations
World Economic Forum, Davos, 2002

"Engineering is the bridge between Science and Society, turning scientific breakthroughs into practical tools for the welfare of mankind."
Jose Medem Sanjuan, President of WFEO
WFEO General Assembly, Moscow, September 2001
